I have a 67 burb and a 67 shortbed both v8. I might be trading the burb off so I want to take the spool out of it since it's posi and swap it with the ring in my shortbed. Will this work? Same case? Would i have to change the pinion? Thanks fellas.

If you are going to that much trouble to swap the 3rd member why not swap the pinion. I am not a 100% sure, but I would keep the ring gear and the pinion that were matched together, together if at all possible. If both ring gears are 8.75'' you should not have a problem. the ring and pinion must both be swapped together because they have 'meshed' otherwise they will destroy each other. just like when a flat tappet cam is changed,the lifters have to be changed also. hope i have been

Big help. Didn't even think about them meshing to each other. I guess i may just swap the whole axle.

that is the best idea, there is alot more to setting up a ring and pinion then you think. I can swap motors and trannys no problem, but when I tried a ring and pinion swap on a ranger I used to have it ended having too tight of clearance and sheared off the carrier at the side bearing. from then on I decided to leave that to the pros.
