Adding extra indicators to a cluster with gauges
This is a project-in-the-making, but I've been wanting to add the OEM indicator lamps (oil pressure / generator) back into my w/gauges cluster, and also to add a 4x4 indicator to go with my new transfer case.
Soo. I contacted a company called New Vintage, who offers a custom indicator gauge in a 2 1/16" housing. It's in the process of being made now, with some minor modifications, so that I can install it into the 4th gauge blank in my cluster (where the vacuum would be). This is taken from the proof sheet, showing all three lamps illuminated and then unlit. More pics to come as a the project progresses

Re: Adding extra indicators to a cluster with gauges
Ya know... that would also be pretty awesome looking in the center between the fuel gauge and the speedo.

Just for fun, here's a couple photos of a cluster they did for a 72 GMC with a Duramax transplant http://www.newvintageusa.com/images/front-panel.jpg http://www.newvintageusa.com/images/lamps-warn1.jpg

Re: Adding extra indicators to a cluster with gauges
I have a tach dash and an ls engine. I made my empty gauge a check engine light. Looks stock (all black) until it lights up. I just cut the check engine pattern out of an s-10 cluster, picked up a 12v light at local parts house and covered the back with a spray paint can lid.

Re: Adding extra indicators to a cluster with gauges
I've been kicking around the idea of completely customizing a gauge so that it houses a 6 inch lcd screen and a PC powers whatever you want in there with a few presets.
Push a button and you see fuel level, push another button and you get Radio / MP3 playlist, push another button and you get GPS or something. Best part of this is when you turn it off, you only see a flat black screen and possibly the buttons (unless those are hidden as well) |
