Re: what mirrors are you using? pics?

I like how these look. I looked for them online and theres a 4" pieced coming off the back that looks like it bolts inside the door? Did you cut it off or whats the purpose? I saw them with electric controls too.

I cut that extension off mine... They are too long to fit in the door. I would imagine they would help keep the mirror steady. If I have issues I may add a brace later... but our old sheet metal is thicker then the years of the trucks they came from.

subscribed!
I thought I saw another board member with this style peep mirror in the corner of his door to look like side mirrors.

Re: what mirrors are you using? pics?

hmmmmm.. I dont have a picture of mine on this computer... Ill take one tonight (if I dont forget).

I have the small mirror that you clip to the top of the door frame. If you have never used them, just looking at them you would think that they wouldnt give you a very good view of whats behind you. I was plesantly surprised at how well you can see from the drivers side. I havent installed my passenger side mirror yet, but I have a feeling it may be obstructed a little by the door frame and vent window.

How well can you see with these? Living in the city, I'm surrounded by yahoos that think the road was made for them alone. I found that being able to see what's going on behind me is very comforting.

Re: what mirrors are you using? pics?

when i bought the truck the driver side one was installed and i put the passenger side on using the same measurements and its partially blocked by the strip between the window and the vent window. You kind of have to lean a little back to see well out of it and i drive with the seat in its full back position. If i were putting them both on I would mount them a few more inches to the rear of their current position.

Re: what mirrors are you using? pics?

I have a set of round ones from classic industries with the chevy emblem. I wouldn't recommend them because one is loose and likes to flop down. also had a tough time mounting such small mirrors. Any body got an old trick to add some stick to the ball joint so it won't fall?

I have the same ones, with the same problem. I hate them, I can't see anything out of them, they are too small, too close to the truck and they never stay in place.

The right side mirror should be mounted per instructions for the 1972. i.e. slightly farther back than the earlier years. There are a couple of old-new threads showing the exact location for the 72.

I have a 71 with the passenger mirror mounted in the 'original 71' position and it's almost useless. If I ever have to repaint the passenger door that useless mirror is getting moved back per the 72 design update.

cheers

Re: what mirrors are you using? pics?

Below eye-lines, as originally installed. I bought these from the parts board here, then had them powdercoated. My originals were both broken, first one by a deer, the second by a thug, or lousy driver, don't know which. But after nearly 30 without any mirrors, I am thrilled to have these back. They are big enough to be useful, and stable in the slipstream. But I sure don't park it on the street, or close to much of anything...they widen the beam of the truck considerably.

Street scene mirrors. My own version of a one peice side window. Yes I can see out of them just fine. I mounted them where I needed them to see.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: what mirrors are you using? pics?

Copied and pasted from another thread.

Found some repro mirror heads for a 69 Holden. Took the crappy sports mirror off the arms and installed the new bits. Not super flash and eventually want to get the squarish mirrors on the longer 66 style arms. The original mirrors were useless inasmuch as I couldn't get enough angle on the right hand side and when your driving on the wrong side of the truck on the right side of the road (being the left) you wanna know who you're about to cut off!
