spray or not to spray Short Weel Base

I was looking at "Line-X" Bed spray on and look very nice and Life time guarantee. My girlfriend say that dust get in the porous and is hard to clean.
Any body got any experience on this or see any in a truck like my. My rigg is Orange hugger with black interior excep the dash.

I have Rhino liner in my 72 and it does collect dust. You just need to spray with a pressure washer or a good strong water hose.

I wouldn't do that to a short bed, but a long bed I most likely would. Are you going to be haulin' anything with your shorty? I personally think it will severly decrease the value of the truck, just my .02

whats wrong with long beds?????

long beds need love too

do what you want with your truck, but in my opinion if you bed is 7 or better
on a scale of 1-10. its a bad move for resale value

if and when i am shopping for a finished 67-72 i wont tuch a truck with a spray liner or a cut dash for a newer radio

Just know that's it's PERMINENT!!!

Line-X is a good product, I've had it done to two newer trucks but I'd never do a 67-72 unless it was just a good old hauler and I planned on keeping it that way.

IMO, I'd paint it and just throw in a rubber bed mat for protection if needed.

I've got line-x in my shorty and I love it. I don't do any serious hauling with it but it is protected if I want to. I have my C20 for hauling and it will get line-x one of these days too. I think it's a great product.

I paint the truck and let the inside the bed unpaint becouse wanted to spray it. Be nice if I can spray an orange liner to match but I heard they only doing black around here!!!!!

Line-x only does black...I had it in a Dodge truck and really liked it.My son and I hauled a lot of motors and transmissions in that truck and when we washed it out it always looked as good as the day it was put in...nothing affected it,not gas,oil,tranny fluid,antifreeze,nothing...it always cleaned up good and we never tore it up,it was very tough

GO for the Line-X thats what I am gettting and they put a clear in it so it stays shiny for forever. I was going to get a tonneau to cover up my air ide and big tubs but with the liner it will look GOOD! Plus you can't beat the nationwide warranty for chips etc. Who cares about value, if you dont ever plan on selling the truck right ?

I don't have anything against longbeds, but most people still use them as trucks. Shortys are just way more rare, and if in good condition, ya know not rusty or beat all to hell, then even more rare.

I have Line-X on my 03 Silverado. I used to spray Speedliner, and I personally think Line-X is the best for wear and for their texture. It has a nice even and somewhat smooth texture. Well, not smooth, but not a sharp gritty-like texture like some others have. You won't be disappointed with Line-X.

I've got a Speedliner, had it for probably 3-4 years. It has faded somewhat, but I expect that since the truck has never been garaged. Very tough stuff, I have hauled a bunch of stuff and never torn it. My friend got a Rhino liner, and literally 3 months after he got it it was all faded and chalky.

I also believe that it will devalue they truck, but it is your truck, so do it the way you want. There are places that can match the liner to the Orange on your truck. It seems like everytime I talk about converting my steel floored bed to a wood bed someone always tells me to "Just have it lined, you know they can match the Orange". I do not think anything is more beautiful then a shiney painted steel floor, except for a well done wood floor .

My spray in liner has been in about 2.5 yrs now. It allows me to still haul stuff around without having to buy yet another truck just for chores. As far as ruining the value that kind of sounds like a crock to me but everyone here is entitled to their opinion. I get compliments on the truck a good bit along with offers to buy it. Not once has someone said " I would pay more but you ruined the bed". There are guys on this board every day who are going to have to buy another bed or build a new one from parts. I feel I just made the truck more functional and user friendly. With all the work guys have done cutting out panels along with welding and fabrication, a couple days with a good grinder equipped with a mega wire brush should be nothing. My other truck has paint in the bed that is as slick as what's on the outside and believe me its a pain to keep it clean and undamaged. With my liner I just throw my stuff in the back and take off! So anyhow, in my humble opinion a liner is a great option if you need to do some haulin!




Oh and you will be happy to know that I didn't cut the dash for a radio (although I did think about it). I did cut er up for the A/C and I am lovin every minute of it.

Keep in mind that everyone does not have a 'perfect' steel bed like your little red does! That thing is freaking awesome!!!! Mine in the CST was good but not even in the same league as yours...Concours restoration...no way I'd coat it....driver truck, which both mine are....heck yes.

Here's my take....
If your gonna put big stuff in it, that is stuff that will sit above the bed rails, I would LineX (or whatever) like SeeTen.

If not and your gonna do some light hauling, do it to under the bed rails. I think it looks a little cleaner and that stuff is really thick and leaves a pretty obvious line from where it's taped off.

Maybe just do the bottom of the bed.

I have yet to see a good coating that doesn't chalk (dull) down the road and start looking a little crappy. I know they have dressings for that.....so much for spray it in and leave it alone.

My bed is in pretty good shape, so I'm making as nice as the rest of the truck and if I never need to put something in it, I will just put some carpet down and be REAL carefull......fortunately I have another truck as my driver.

I Really like the Spray in bedliner I would still like to think my truck can function as a truck. What size rims and tires are you running they look really good on your truck. I will more than likely invest in the spray in the bed liner on my truck

If you actually use your truck as a truck, then by all means SPRAY IT!!!

I find it interesting that many people who think that it devalues the vehicle are the same people who lower their 2wds and jack up their 4x4's. I will personally NEVER EVER EVER buy a vehicle that has any modification that wasn't made by me. I just don't trust ANYONE else's jerry-rigging.

I am going to cut my dash to put a cd player in, and if I didn't have a wood bed, I would most definitely spray it and not even have a second thought about it.

The HUGE difference is that I can easily put my truck back to stock height, spray in bedliners are more permanent, chemical dipping is the only way (I've been told) to remove it. No matter though, it is all personal preference and what each of us feels is the best look for our trucks. This is what makes this such an awesome site, new ideas to either use or share with others

I think by NEVER EVER EVER buying a truck that has been modified would surely limit your abilty in finding a truck . I'd say that more than half the people on this site have been doing "mods" to they're truck for years, myself included. The word Jerry-Rigging is not a word we use or a practice that we do. Either do it right or not at all.


EDIT: - hugger69SWBCST, I apologize for my comment about the devalue of the truck to have a spray in bedliner, I just personally do not want one in my truck and I got a bit off topic. The whole reason I am going to a wood bed on mine is because my bed floor is pretty banged up (I actually considered a body color liner when I first brought her home). I will not be using my truck to haul engines, dirt or lumber, it will be a daily driver (hopefully a very nice one) that gets peoples attention.

I think it would have more personality if you got it body color though because your rarely see them done that way (again...MY own opinion )
