Is it just me or......?

Now I'm not here to complain about any design or gloat about how I love my 72 GMC. However I must admit that the 85-88 for some reason has been calling me. In terms of body style, I used to think that the 73-87 was just plain ugly. Could it be the influence of the newer trucks since they have gone more square themselves? Or is it simply the aura of the 88-99 is finally starting to feel as the 73-87 once did on me. But I feel as if lots of other people are now out for the old squares. Yes I'm saying the 88-99 is starting to be ugly for me. I know I'm not the only one having this love affair change. I'll definitely take a interior from a 87 over a 88 any day of the week with everything that breaks on the interior of the 88.

Re: Is it just me or......?

I loved the trucks with the 4 headlights from when the came out...mid 80's
but nuttin says "old truck" like round headlights...pre 80's
the larger square high/low lights sorry but they all look dodgeish to me...about 80
and not a fan over the newerlights i guess from 89 up
it the 78 the dash seemed missing something
I prefer the bigger later dash
why i put my 89 in the 78...and the nicer trim too

And how about those 2 foot tall bumper corners? As far as the new trucks go I think the GMC is a way better looking truck than the Chevy version.

I went from a 70 longhorn to a 72 short-wide. Then a 79 4x4 short-wide to an 87 4x4 30. Current project is an 89 Crew. Love the 89 front on the old square body style. I'm with you though on the 88 and up trucks, I just don't feel the love for them yet.

when the body style change'd in '88 , Blazer,Suburban's and Crew cabs kept the square body design thru '91. the grill's were made to look simular to the new reg cab pick up's. '89-'91 GMC grill's were the best look'n grill GM ever made

Mine's not a suburban, it's an 89 truck. Crew cab 1 ton - single rear wheel ::. Here's what it looked like the day I dragged it home. It's in a million pieces now - frame off.

man jay,you read my mind.i was going to buy a new diesel and that front bumper with 2ft sidewall ,,about made me upchuck.the gmc is a nice looking truck as far as the new ones.i won't say what i bought ,as it is a dirty word on here.but,iv'e owned two of them torque monster straight sixes over the years while ford and gm try to get an eight cylinder diesel to last for any amount of time.

I can totally relate.

When I first saw the "new for '81" front end, I didn't like it so I hurried and bought an '80.

Similarly, when I saw the new GMT400 models, I didn't like them so I hurried and bought an '87 (which I still have).

My dad used to tease me. He'd say "....you would have seen the 55 Chevy's, not liked them and bought a '54!!

Always been a fan of the round headlights and the lines on the '70's trucks. I love my '73 but honestly, if I could have anything I wanted, i'd go back a year to '72 with the GMC dual round headlights.

Re: Is it just me or......?

To me those front ends look the same because I guess I'm looking at the corners for the most part. One has a vertical divider on each side with a "GENERIC MADE CHEVY" emblem and the other has a horizontal divider with a bow-tie on it. I just don't care for either stock grill. Preference is what this boils down to.....man America is great!!! We get to choose what we want. I will be doing the chevy one on the link below even though I would prefer the GMC one because the emblem is gone. But that's what I have to work with. And these do not look cheesy as others I have seen.

Re: Is it just me or......?

I like to put GMC grilles with a bowtie in the the middle, First thing I done with my 92 Silvy- gmc billet grille and a polished bowtie...looking at that LMC repro LMC chrome grille, and a bowtie for my 89 CC Dooley. I just don't like the chrom headling bezels. I'd like to see the chrome grille with black headlight bezels before I buy the grille.
