i used 1/4-20 1 or 1.5 inch long nut/bolts. they bolt to the bumper brackets

The bolts are pan head machine screws with a trussed, #4 phillips head. 5/16 x 3/4". The trussed head (from what I read) has a flatter surface under the head for a flatter look and better holding power. They are available in stainless.
