Some years ago now I seen a car on Craigs list and on a whim ask a friend to go with me to buy it ,, we took a greyhound bus which was a first for me ,,lots of interesting folks take the bus I found out ,,it was north of Spokane Washington in a town called Colville .. Not bragging here guys,,as after I did a bunch of work on it and sold it after a few short years I lost about $4,000 on it ..had fun with it though .. wife said no more cars with no roof as it blew her hair all over.. even after the hair glue hair spray.. dont tell her I said that, ok? so whats your tale like this one ..

Bought this one sight unseen off ebay.

I threw a bid in just to be a playa and it tripped the reserve.

That was on a Wednesday; it wasn't done until Sunday.

I called my wife into the room Saturday night and said "babe - I may have bought a car"



I was sure somebody else would snipe in there and steal it out from under me - but - nobody else put a bid in on it.

That was 15 years ago.

The young kid who bought the Vette off me worked at a car dealership as a detailer and his girl friend worked at Burger King ,, they wanted a Vette to leave in from their HoneyMoon .. I built a Buick Estate Wagon years ago with an Olds 455... More recently I ended up with two 95 Z/28s somehow.

This is the one that got me educated on time, money and commitment to these old vehicles. I turned every nut and bolt on this puppy at about 25 years old.. and to this day when I listen to people who have not a clue as to what it takes I just chuckle.

Wish I had better pic's but this was taken from an old paper picture. You can see my buddy's 72 Suburban behind it as we pulled the motor and drive train for a rebuild.

My cousin text me one morning and pointed me towards an online auction for a 72 Suburban. There was only about 5 minutes left and I didn’t have a user profile yet to bid on it so while I signed up for one I had him throw in the next bid. $100 increments and got outbid right away. Each time you bid, the timer extended 2 minutes. By that time I had my user ID and had located the video of the suburban lot running and driving so I was comfortable enough going the extra $100 fully expecting to get outbid again right away. That didn’t happen and I was the new owner of a 72 suburban. Haven’t done much work to it since I got it. New rear springs and switches to ralleys.

I got a job one time backin 1971 working at surverying for a nuclear plant and I drove around the land site in a rig just like that one you bought ,, It was called the " CRUMMY ".. Sure could haul a lot of tools and it was long inside too.

I grew up in NW Oregon and knew what a crummy was. Neighbor across the street was a logger and left in the mornings at dark-thirty in the crummy. When he came home after work, he often looked like he'd been through a war. Seeing him helped convince me not to work in the woods.

Spotted my '56 Napco sitting out in a field while out wheelin' with friends as a freshman in college. I kept an eye on it for a few years and finally, with the help of his neighbor that worked at Carquest, got the owner to sell it to me. As a broke college kid, I scraped together enough cash (good thing frozen pizzas were cheap yet) and pulled it back down ORV trails (old railroad grades) to the house I lived in. Got lucky no one else spotted it or knew what it was sitting out in the field. My parents weren't totally disappointed since its a Napco so that was a win but they were surprised by it. I still have it and still working on the restoration.

I bought a truck for my truck. And to satisfy my need to drive these while I rebuilt a C10. Really, a pretty and convincing blond "bought it for me". Long story, the former owner wouldn't sell it to me because ????? I told her the story, she insisted on getting it, and she paid less than what I offered. Did I mention she was pretty and convincing? Only took her a minute or two, true story.

Match made in heaven, I admit to taking some parts off it to restore my C10, and it rarely failed to surprise me, considering its condition. Started and stopped consistently, carried lots of BA loads, and fun to drive, couldn't have asked for more. Funny thing was, the license plate read 400, like the engine badges on both trucks. "Destiny destiny, no escaping that for me".

It was a 72 Super, well optioned, but most components didn't work, no shortage of rust. I can say I miss it some, maybe I'll buy another driver someday.
