Did they ever make? 1968 CST 4x4 Shortbed?

Just wondering if Chevrolet ever made a 1968 CST shortbed 4X4? There is one here in FL. and wasn't sure if it was cut, or whether it was factory... I haven't had a chance to see it parked and talk to the owner, but it sure does look good.

Also, if they were made...any for sale out there?!? I'd love to have a '68, '71, or '72 CST 4x4 SWB one day!!!

There was also the Custom option that was available.
There was very little difference in the CST or Custom trim levels.
I believe the CST had bucket seats and the Custom a bench seat
The later 71 and 72 models the CST package was replaced with the Cheyenne and Cheyenne Super packages.

Very few 67 68 short 4x4's were made and most were not highly optioned.
There is probably more out there now with all the options than there were originally.

Do you guys know if you can tell by the option sticker or some other factor that it was originally a short bed truck? Is there codes or something that can be researched.

With the CST vs. the Custom...did both have the chrome down the side?

Like I said before, I'd like to one day find one of these and just want to ensure what it was originally. I really like the muscle cars also, and so many of them are being cloned, which I don't see to much wrong with as long as the person isn't trying to sell it off as something it isn't.

Check the model number listed on the top of the glove box option sheet.

A Short step model number will begin KS10704 for a I6 or KE10704 for a V8.

A short wide model number will begin KS10734 for a I6 or KE10734 for a V8.

In 68 the buckets are a seperate option from the CST package and so was the side trim so it would be possible to have a 68 CST without side trim or buckets.

List the options on the glove box and we'll help you figure out what should be there. Sounds like a really cool 68!

toms68cst Thanks for the info. on the option sticker and the model #'s. I'm just getting into these trucks and I'm learning as I go. Like I said above, the truck is not mine, I just have seen it a couple of times driving by. It is a red '68 swb, 4X4, with CST emblems on the door, and chrome trim down the side. I'm unsure if it was originally this way or not. If I ever see it parked or can get the guy to pull over I'll ask him. It looks REALLY nice...

Hey there Mark.
Most of your questions were answered above.
However, you did mention somthing I should mention.
The VIN # only tells about the chassis, and drive train.
It tells nothing about trim options like a Chevelle SS would.
The only way to tell if it was a CST (we would all love to have a SWB 68 4x4 CST. THAT would be a rare find!) would be the option sticker on the inside of the glove box door as mentioned above. And the only way to tell it's not a "CLONE" is by looking to see if the GB Door sticker looks old / original. You can buy these GB Door stickers new and type in what you like. So if it looks obviously new . . . . I would be careful.
This advise holds true for all 67 - 72 trucks.

Darren: Thanks! I have come across trucks that are listed for sale with an obvious newer sticker on the glove box when I was looking for a Blazer. Of coarse they had a ton of options. I guess as the prices go up on the trucks then more people will try to clone them (like the muscle cars). Like I said prior, I don't really have a problem with people putting on the options they like, just don't try to pass it off as something that was originally this way so they can get more money for the vehicle.
