Where should the VIN plate be on a 66

I have a 66 and went to the emission station to get the VIN verified something that is required in my state when registering a vehicle from out of state and we couldn't find the tag anywhere. (He took it off my title instead) however I had call the family member I bought it from and he couldn't remember where is was (He's almost 80) so I was wondering where were the tags at originally? We looked on dash we looked under hood and in the door sill. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

As you look in the truck with the driver's door open, it's on the door opening of the cab at the top - you can almost hit your head on it when you get in.

Both my 66 and 63 are in the door sill but different locations both my 66s had it directly above your head when you open the door although my 66 gmcs was only being held on by one rivit it was rusted all around. Is your truck rusted there any?
