Header?
I'm restoring my GMC with a 402BB and I don't know whether to put on headers. What are the pros and cons? Should I put on headers or use the stock manifolds?

Hey Dave, I thought you was worried about going back stock with the firewall markings. If so I would leave the truck stock.

I put a '67 Chevelle 396ci in my '72 GMC once and ran 1 3/4 inch headers. I'm sure headers give you a little better performance than stock, but I've always had to keep after the header bolts (they loosen) and replace collector flange gaskets (they blow) from time to time. Just depends on your rebuild theme which way you want to go.

headers are better for performance, but they create a lot of heat under the hood. Headers also like to cook starter solenoids (been through 4 already). Plus in the winter you cannot have the stove pipe hooked up to the air cleaner
