starter stays engaged
ok sorry for this might be a dumb question but i need to know does anyone know why my starter would just all of the sudden not disengage was running great except when you started the truck you had to let off the key for it to crank now when you start it the starter keeps turning even when the key is off till you pull the battery cable thanks in advance for all the help

Maybe a bad ignition switch or perhaps the starter solenoid?

How is your starter wired? Is it stock, or are you using a relay (remote solenoid)? And is it a "permanent magnet" type starter?

it is the stock starter for the inline six but i put a 350 in it with hei so it is missing second power wire to the fuse box and cloudbrk thanks thats kinda what i was thinking my self

Sounds like a bad Bendix gear to me.

well it has been starting fine except for having to let go of the key to bust off if you hold it it will turn over all day and never crank if you let go it will instantly but this last time it just stayed engaged i killed the truck and still was turning i had to pull the battery cable

ok guys had a light bulb go off in my head i was thinking if i unplugged the ignition and reconnected the battery if it didnt engage then it was the ignition and if it did then it is the starter selinoid right or am i thinking bout this wrong but it still was engaged with the ignition unplugged
