My Heck-of-a-deal Craigs List Find....

Well, this '68 K10 LWB was listed on my local Craigs List a couple of months ago. (I'm just now getting aroung to posting this) I thought it was some sort of scam or typo; it was listed for a $100.
It had a local number, so I called. Yep that is the ammount it was for sale for; couldn't see much from the picture on CL, but what it was had me headed immediately to the seller. I was lucky to be the first on site and had cash in hand. The seller was a Ford guy and didn't care about it, just wanted it gone!
It didn't run, missing the carb but looked complete. Still had the original owners manual in the glovebox! Last registration was over 20 years ago. I drug it home, cleaned it out and started an inventory. RH rocker has some pin-hole rust but the rest is solid. Body is remarkably straight, but it's had a couple of paint jobs in it's lifetime.
Put a bar on the engine and it turns over. Replaced a battery cable, added a battery, replaced some fluids and and the starter spun the engine over to the point it built oil pressure!
I pulled out an old 2bbl I had laying around, popped it apart and cleaned it up, and bolted in down to the intake. Some fresh fuel and it was running! Albiet smoking profusely but running, no knocks.
Brakes held and I took it for a spin around the block.
It's not quite a driver, but a great start for a resto project.
If I get started on it this Winter, maybe I'll do a build thread.
Thanks for looking.

Re: My Heck-of-a-deal Craigs List Find....

The RH rocker will need replaced, it's got some pin-holes I could push a pick through. I pulled off the sill plates and pulled the floor mat back; the floors are solid. The cab-corners are clean and solid as well as the mounts. I think its a keeper. I believe it came out of CA; at least that's the registration that was in the glovebox. As well as a stack of receipts dating from the early '70's to the mid '80's. How it ended up in AK and not beat to tears by now is beyond me. It just couldn't have been driven...?

I agree

4x4...anyone else notice the tow hooks????? They are worth more than $100 by themselves. That can of Pabst Blue Ribbon seals the deal for me.

Man, that is a heck of a deal! It's definitely a keeper. And tow hooks.

So if you are 64N and I'm 41S that means.........it's far! My next trip into North America I'm hoping to drive Vancouver to Prudhoe Bay. I'll give you a shout! Ya gotta dream.

Great find, congrats!

Now what is that guage behind the steering wheel in the center of your dash?

It does not look like a tach or a clock?

Let us know.

Awesome deal on that rig!

Looks like it's got great bones, and you have a great start with the service manual on the seat!

I am curious about what that switch and label are on the driver side dash next to the jam (left of the gauge panel). Can you post a picture of it?

Re: My Heck-of-a-deal Craigs List Find....

Tow Hooks... I didn't even give them a second thought?

Yes, someone stuffed an old SW tack in the center hole, It's non-functional, Maybe a wire came off? I haven't even messed with it.

@ vectorit- The label is a Warn Hubs decal, and a PO stuck a switch in the center of it...?

@ swamp rat- check out e-bay, those early valve covers are a dime-a-dozen, well maybe not; but not hard to find at a decent price. However, these are the first set I've seen with the breather in the RH cover...?
If you're set on them PM me and I'll shoot you some close-up pics and you can make me an offer. They are not original to the truck, I'm not that into them.

Re: My Heck-of-a-deal Craigs List Find....

This is interesting; maybe someone with a little more experience in the early K series can chime in. The rear leafs are only a two-leaf pack with a riser block. I can't say I've ever seen this before.... Is that some sort of aftermarket spring? The truck sits level.

Thanks!

Ya know i have to fill the oil from the valve cover so they won't work, but i may have a look on E Bay soon. I'd give ya 200 for the truck to tho.. Nice score!
