Bumpers back from plating...before and after

I'm really pleased with the new chrome on the old OEM bumpers. The front bumper was pretty well warped when I sent it out and it returned arrow straight. The bolt holes that were rounded are now repaired and square. These went to an electroplating company in El Paso as NM no longer has any businesses redoing chrome. $400 and some change for the work.

I wanted to chrome an OEM rear step bumper but the company won't accept them. Apparently, the irregularity of the diamond plate won't allow for adequate surface prep leading to poor plating.

Getting the K20 built one piece at a time. Happy Thanksgiving.

Re: Bumpers back from plating...before and after

Total bill was $440 for both, $220 each. They will ship but I was able to have folks drop off/pick up for me. They were done in two weeks.

Wow!! Those turned out nice!! I had mine redone but they were nearly perfect dent free. I had no idea the could fix a bumper that was so bent.

Re: Bumpers back from plating...before and after

Electroplating of El Paso 915-779-3796 www.electroplatingelpaso.com

The company came highly recommended by a local body/resto shop in business for a long time. They claim to have used this company for chrome work for ~ decade.

The backside of the front bumper does have expected some hammer marks from the straightening process but these do not show through the front. The rear is totally smooth.

Re: Bumpers back from plating...before and after

I don't know this for sure but suspect the work is done across the river in Juarez, which may keep the price down and duck any EPA oversight. Rueben was the guy I spoke with and he used to own a 67 chevy truck. He told me they have bumper molds for our trucks to help straighten them. He was able to give me a quote based on pics I emailed to him. I would definitely use them again. We'll see how the chrome holds up over time. If any of y'all have work done too let me/us know.

Yeah, for the price why buy repro?

This is exactly why the price is so cheap. It is done in Mexico. Not a big deal though, looks awesome

I do

My dad uses a shop that is in Louisiana. They simply have the item re-chromed in Mexico, and send it back. Smart way to avoid dealing with the EPA as it keeps the cost affordable.

Can you find out the name of the shop in Loyisiana for me? It might save me some shipping cost.

I think the hammer marks shown here support the repair of my original bumper! Again, these cannot be seen from the front.
