Polishing my grill

I read something about easy-off being used to remove the finish on our grille surrounds. How does this work? I would greatly appreciate some input on this, maybe a link or two. I tried looking in the older posts but to no avail. I really need to polish my surround, I tried in the past but was unable to get past the finish.

Easy off is supposed to take the anodizing off, then you can sand with fine grits and hit it with an aluminum polish. After that, you will have to keep it polished or clearcoat it to keep it shiny.

I used to do the oven cleaner method but never again. It's just too time consuming and it's really hit or miss. It used to take 3 or more soakings and if you left it dry or on too long, you risk damaging the part.

I bought an annodizing remover from: http://www.villagebuffing.com/compound.htm

See the 6th down from the top. ($12.00)

This stuff is awesome! Mix some in warm water, then place the part in and watch it fizz. 15 minutes and it's done. The best part is there is no chance of damaging the part like the over cleaner. Leave it in as long as you like/need to.

EasyOff is corrosive with aluminum. I agree with using something else.

I used Comet or AJAX cleaner and a scrubber pad and it worked out good on the '69 outer grille I just pulled from a truck at the junkyard.
