Sluggish acceleration and won't go over 45mph

Okay so my tranny went out last month so i had it rebuilt with a shift kit and while I was there I figured why not go with a 3000 stall converter. Anyways, after I installed the tranny my truck is way slower and doesn't launch as hard as when it was stock. Any ideas?

Re: Sluggish acceleration and won't go over 45mph

Why would you put such a high stall converter in there?...

The poor thing is probably never locking up, you have to remember a converter is a big pump, if you don't spin the pump enough, you ain't makin stuff turn.

Change the converter.

Re: Sluggish acceleration and won't go over 45mph

Well I figured since the cam makes power around 2500 I've heard to go about 5 to 8 hundred over for the tc.

Re: Sluggish acceleration and won't go over 45mph

Well bud, I know the converter goin in my truck is at like 1200-1500.

Just a good, old tow converter, pretty sure it's an Art Carr.

Re: Sluggish acceleration and won't go over 45mph

sounds like you went with too much converter. Go to one of the converter company's web sites and look for what they recomend. Some of them even have tech lines for this. They'll need to know the weight of the truck, tire size, gearing, engine displacement, compresson ratio and cam.
Your complaint is classic "over converter'd" complaint.
This is assuming you filled the trans all the way. (check running, warm and on level ground)
