Gear Drive
Has anybody here ever used the gear driven timing other than a timing chain? What were your results / experiences with them?

Yes, Many times.
Keep your HP under 450 and you will be fine. I have only had failures in the post 450Hp range. Ogier |

Gear drives
I had a Pete Jackson in a 71 El Camino & never had a problem with it.

I bought a nice used Pete Jackson "quiet" set for a 350 I am building only to find out I can't use it since the engine is fuel injected and has a knock sensor. Apparently, the sound of the gears affects the computer when the knock sensor picks up the noise. If you are interested, I will sell you the set for $75 shipped to your door. They are about $150 new.

I"ve been running an Edelbrock gear drive(slightly noisy but not as loud as the Pete Jackson ones) for the last 6 years. The engine is fuel injected and has a knock sensor. I can read what the knock sensor is doing with my laptop and there is no issue with the gear drive sending readings to the emc.

Interesting.... I wonder if the Pete Jackson set up is just too noisey as opposed to the Edelbrock setup?
