Bodydropping my truck

I still have to bag my truck first, but in the end i want my rockers flat on the pavement. Any recommendations for a GOOD shop around Virginia to perform my bodydrop? I can find hacks all day long, finding a good shop that knows there stuff is almost impossible around here.

Any help is welcomed. Thanks.

I don't think that the Drop shop is around anymore. I know that Jody has been into modding out 4 wheelers and stuff of the nature. I dont think he's doing bag work and metal work anymore.

But I could be wrong

You dont need to do a full on body drop to make these things sit the rocker on the ground. Take out your body mounts and put in smaller ones- 1/4" This will make your body lower then your frame. attached is my old shop truck that was planting rocker with this mod. Do it yourself if you are going to do your bags yourself.

No, the body is different. If you want your rockers close to the ground on a 73-87 truck you will need to do a crossmember drop, body drop, or Z the frame....

Here is a pic of my 82 Blazer when the fender liners were out. As you can see the A-arm pivot point is the lowest point on the crossmember. Even though it's on the ground, the fenders still have 4-5" to go....

what part will not work? is it the bed? I thought all the mounting points were on a thick rubber mount.. I'm not arguing... just asking.

I have plans of bagging my 71 c10 and would love it if it could lay rocker. What is EVERYTHING that you need to do/use to lay rocker on these style trucks?? What bags should I use?? Any special way that I need to mount them?? Do I have to notch the rear frame?? If so how much?? Do they sell the shorter mounts that you are talking about to body drop it?? If so where and how much?? Can I use the stock tank?? Have to do anything to the bed floor or cab floor (tranny tunnel)?? If I am laying rocker, what would be the ride height to drive it everyday (how close to stock)?? I am not going any bigger than 17's on my truck...may still use it every once in a while for towing. Any help is greatly appreciated. Pics would be great. Sorry about all the questions I am all new to this stuff and just trying to learn.

Thanks,

Travis

i`m with fastbagged68 i wouldn`t pay $3000 to get a body drop and lose head/leg room. when you can do that for a very minimal cost.

Don't know, but most likely. Look under your cab and see the gap inbetween the frame and floor and then look at all the other mounts.

I have a 86 c-30 dually. It needed 4 inches to get the rockers to lay flat. I think on the older body's you don't need much of body drop to get it to lay flat. But on the 83-88's you need a big drop.

I did a stock floor on mine and didn't loose any headroom or leg room. You can see some pics at www.crazytalkcustoms.com under the projects page.

you might not have as much room with a 73-87 because of the gas tanks. if you drop the body by way of thinner mounts, the bottom of the bed may smack the gas tank before it goes too far. shouldn`t be too hard to get around though with some light fab work or a fuel cell. the main work in going this route is your bumpers. when you drop your body, the frame stays the same. this means the way the bumpers mount stays the same. me and my buddy body dropped an s10 blazer and we had to fab some plates to drop the bumpers. it is also not too major of a deal, just alot of tedious work. the job that "notlowerthanme" has done there is just bad ass, that looks good man.

seems to me your still gonna have to raise the bed floor up cuz it mounts directly to the frame. but thats better than doing a full on bodydrop.

Nic that SS Monte is just beautiful. I allways was curious how to build a slammed out tow truck so the ultralow tires could take the weight. How much load will them rear tires take?

bagged72blaz. The tires are load rated to 1900lbs each. I'm actually running all 4 unlike some people, so they can take the better part of 7500lbs. The rims themselves can handle 6000lbs a piece. Since the hub surface is still stock.

Well the bed mounts directly to the frame. So if you change your body mounts then the bed will sit higher than the cab. On a 83-87 I don't see it being worth the time to remove the body mounts or lower them considering the amount of drop you need to get the rockers to lay flat. Even with a crossmember drop or z' ing the frame you only gain the amount the crossmember was holding the truck up. Which isn't enough on the 83-87 to get it to lay rocker. But you can get the frame to lay flat. You would still need to do a body drop. Traditional or stock floor.

You still get into clearance issues with your tranny tunnel dropping cab mounts also not to mention like stated before your bed.Do the xmember drop or z the frame with spindles and you will be fine.
