HELP! Starting problems, Electrical? Any Ideas?
So my truck has been starting just fine.
Then yesterday I get in it turn the key, the starter engages and after a couple of seconds of trying to turn the motor over it just stops. Now when I turn the key I get nothing? No click of the starter/solenoid just silence? All other electrical seems fine (all lights are working, etc...) I tried bridging the contacts on the starter solenoid to directly turn the starter over but nothing happened, just a couple of sparks. Details: 1961 c-10 stock 235 inline 6 with alternator update Any Ideas? Thanks!!!! Last edited by Rodents; 11-16-2013 at 05:57 PM. Reason: forgot engine details |

Sorry you are having trouble. First I would start by removing and cleaning both ends of the starter cable. Then make sure that you get the nut on the starter end tight (but not too tight as you can break the solenoid). Only after you finish under the truck should you re-connect the cleaned battery end of the cable. If none of this helps, I would get your battery load tested.
Hope this is useful, Christopher |

Thanks for the replies
I got it working again Not exactly sure what the problem was, maybe a loose wire or something. I just took all the wires off the solenoid (They all looked pretty clean) then put them all back tightened everything down good and she started right up! Crisis avoided. |

I had the same issue with mine....I would turn the key and get nothing...so what I did was I tapped the starter with a hammer and it cranked and fired right up....normally if the starter is old or if you connections are old or loose you'll have easy fix problems like these once-in-awhile. Glad your back on the road!
