Brake light question
Concerning the 4 wires that go to the back of the truck; light green, dark green, brown, yellow. Should power be sent down the dark green wire AND the yellow wire when you step on the brakes? The reason I'm asking is that I have no left brake light and no power down the yellow, just the dark green wire has power when I step on the brakes. Everything else back there works. Thanks very much in advance for any help.

Yes. The brake lights use the same bulb filaments as the turn signals. The yellow wire goes to the left brake/turn-signal filament.

Try wiggiling the turn signal while your foot is on the brake pedal. Most likely (if both turn signals or your 4 ways work) it'll be a bad turn signal switch.

Pull the sockets out,and make sure they are getting good contact.Bad grounds can wreak havoc too.

Yup, wiggling the turn signal switch while my foot was on the brake caused the brake light to come on, so it seems to point to the switch. I never tried my hazards, cause the little red pull is sheared off flush with the steering column. Thanks very much for everyone's help!

Sweet.
While grounds are an issue on any older vehicle...esp if there is a wooden bed floor in the equasion, as long as the parking lights work, then 99% of the time the ground will be enough for the brake lights too. |
