Question 6 to 5 lug

my '68 still has the factory 6 lug rear end,
I have a 5 lug rear end out of a '71 that I,m going to switch in,
the question I have is : are the axles the same, spline, length, etc. I'm going to use the entire '71 rearend, as I believe it is a bolt in swap, but the question was brought up to me, and I didn't know the answer , if in fact you could just use the axles?
thanks John

The 71 diff is 1 1/2" wider than the 68, so the axle shafts wont bolt in, but the complete diff is a bolt in swap. good luck....crazyL
