Keep or de-chrome
Greetings,
The p.o. some time ago had the cowl (wiper cowl) chromed. It could use a little elbow greese to bring the luster back up and it's in good shape. It has no peeeling, yellowing or pits. I am undecided as to have it dipped and paint it or leave it chromed. I havent seen too many with chromed cowls. What would you do? Thanks. Madtat |

Re: Keep or de-chrome
Personally I am not a fan of chromed sheet metal, my opinion.

I would think the bright reflection would blind you while driving.

Re: Keep or de-chrome
dechrome or throw it in the trash and get another one. Then track down the po and jimmyslap him...
Ok, just kidding. Kinda. But since you're asking opinions, I think a chrome cowl is hideous. Wait, maybe I should sugarcoat my opinion. Naa. |

Re: Keep or de-chrome
Well a new cowl panel should be close to free, If you lived around here I know I would just give you one.
If the chrome one is nice and you really think it would polish up good, use it as garage art. Or take it to the next swap meet you go to and mark it high and sell it for a decent chunk of money (anything over 20 bucks would be decent in my mind).

Re: Keep or de-chrome
Sell that one. And get a replacement and put the extra coin in your pocket. Someone will want it.

Re: Keep or de-chrome
Someone out there would really like to have your chrome one, no sense in ruining the chrome by painting it. I mean, you live in El Paso, there's folks around there that are into that kind of thing if you catch my drift. Sell it and let someone else enjoy it and buy yourself a stock one for a few bucks.

Re: Keep or de-chrome
It's a matter of preference and your truck. Do what you like. Most on this site lack the perspective to appreciate a thing like this in it's retro perspective. If I had a dime for everything guys here hated then loved in the time I've been here I'd be rich. It's not what I'd do,because I like subtle (and always have). But chroming pieces of vehicles is a way of customizing that dates back to before you could run out and "buy" cool stuff or have set trends to follow. A chromed cowl could be cool on a truck built with a particular era-look in mind. How about some 10" wheels all around and some metalflake...BIG metalflake. Hey,it's the guy who steps outside the box who the herd follows. Hearing all nays makes me want to go ahead and turn those heads around. Been there, done that

I've been looking for a way to remove chrome from some parts I have. How do you do it?

Retro is right, put that on the right truck and it would look cool I think. Someone building a truck with that retro vibe and right color might really want that. Shoot I have a good cowl on my 70 I would trade you for sure. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Keep or de-chrome
When I was a kid, all the cool older guys had stepside trucks with chrome cowl panels and chrome bed steps. Chrome wagon wheels and chrome exhaust echo tips.
It was all the rage. |
