Truck Just Quit
Jumped in the '72 today and it started right up as usual.. drove about 30 feet in the parking lot.. stopped at the curb to look both ways, and it just died.
No noise, no fanfare.. just died, like it was out of Gas. I pushed it back to my space, and tried to start it .. it turns over fine, lots of battery .. It was down to a few inches in the tank, but it's always run on less than that.. Just to make sure, I added a few gallons, and put some into a squirt bottle.. A few squirts down the carb (2 barrel) and it roared up and caught for a second or two, then died again. This happened over and over.. I finally stopped as to not completely drain the battery. So, I'm getting spark, it's turning over fine, and I have an HEI distributor, that was running fine just moments before. I have the stock fuel pump, and the lines aren't leaking at all. My guess is it's getting no fuel. Either the pump or a clogged filter. Usually a clogged filter sort of bogs you down in the days or weeks that preclude a shut down.. (Can't lean in far enough to see, I'm on my own, and it's too damned hot during the days) My question is, can a pump just suddenly go from one second to the next? All my pump experiences allowed the car to draw fuel once they were running.. And if it's NOT the pump.. anyone got any words of experience wisdom that can point me in the right direction? Thanks J.

Re: Truck Just Quit
Oh and check any of your old rubber fuel lines the 10% ethanol gas will eat it up to where its clogging stuff up or it colapses.

Re: Truck Just Quit
i'd take the supply line off the pump and with gascap off blow (lopressure) into the disconnected line to see if it or the intank strainer was clogged// hook up and then try it // if it now works it means you've got the 40years of crap in the tank cloggin things up
