88 Jimmy Help Needed

I have a 88 Full size Jimmy with the 5.7l fuel injection. My problem is that when I push on the gas pedal it sounds like clunking noise and I lose all power and it hestitates then it seems like it catches and then it takes off. But it will also do this at cruise speed. I have changed anything yet cause I'm not sure where to start. It does have 98,000 miles on it when I bought it.You can also hear one of the lifters knocking, which I can fix but want to wait until I get the other problem figured out and fixed..If you can help me I would appreciate it..Thanks in advanced

sounds like fuel problem when you step on the gas it gets starved for fuel and stumbles. if you havent changed fuel filter lately that would be first place to start and very inexpensive after that use some injector cleaner to clean the injectors to make sure they are spraying correctly. if none of this works check out the fuel pump to make sure it is working properly hope this helps Doc

fuel filter is halfway up the framerail between the tank and the engine just follow the fuel lines toward the engine until you find what looks like a metal can bout the size of a 2 cycle oil can or there bouts. the filter thats in the tank attached to the pump usu doesnt need changed until you change the fuel pump. hope this helps Doc
