I should have what you need. I have a 70 3/4 ton front axle. Any idea on how involved the removal is? The ax is out of the truck and stored in pallet racking in the shed. At least that part is easy.

C'mon now, you know you are just going to have Mrs. Da-Burb do all the hard work anyways!!

I wish I had some pallet racking...

Re: WTB: NEED axle backing plate

Honestly, I would guess 5~10 mins with the right tools.....just tore mine down to the spindle the other day, you need to pull the cap off of the locking hub (6 allen head bolts), pull the snap ring off of the stub of the axle to get the locking hub off, unbolt the locking hub (6 9/16 bolts) and remove assembly. After that there will be (2) axle nuts seperated by a lock washer (I rented the tool from a murray's autoparts store, it came in a kit of 5 or 6). Once the hub if off there are (6) bolts holding on the backing plate, and I would assume the brake line needs to be pulled......any idea on asking price? shipping to 48198?
Thanks

Re: WTB: NEED axle backing plate

36 year old Minnesota front end? I'm guessing the fire wrench is coming out for some fastener to get the backing plate off.

A couple of years ago I put the front disk brakes off a 1971 Minnesota Monte Carlo on my Chevelle. I wanted to paint or replace the backing plates. I had the spindles still on the car, the largest breaker bar I own, and I still couldn't budge the backing plate hardware.

I ended up wire wheeling them, por-15ing them, and leaving them attached.

Re: WTB: NEED axle backing plate

ChrisH.....Mrs Da-burb has really been slacking in the wrench spinning department. Now in her second semester of higher learning leaves little time for her in the shop. ps pallet racking....it isn't going to be long now.........

Matt(mrein) this isn't even a MN front end. I had to import this from Indiana. It doesn't look too bad at all.

Shelby, I will take a look at it this weekend and PM you shortly.
