Fuel line replacement.
I want t get away from the rubber line I have from my stock mechanical fuel pump and I'm looking looking around for a suitable one. Can anyone suggest something for me? I have this 5/8 connection on the output side of the pump which I assume is stock. Thanks in advance

I should add it's metal out for s short distance then rubber line all the way to my 1406 with an inline filter

Use a length of brake line. Bend a wire coat hanger and copy the bends. The coated ones look nice too

NAPA sells rolls of metal line called Poly Armor. It's easy to bend and I used it to remake my lines all the way from the fuel sender up to the fuel pump. I plan to use it from the pump to the carb.
I bought a Craftsman double flare kit and made my bubble flares with that. I'll end up using it for the underhood line too where I'll have fittings and need the double flare function. The less rubber line you have the less likely you'll have a fire. *I like the suggestion of coat hanger wire as a template. I ended up using some ground wire since I have rolls and rolls of 12-2 left over from a renovation. |

Is there a particular gauge or size of tubing that connects properly with that 5/8 nut?

On my Jimmy I bought pre-bent lines from Inline Tube as mentioned above. I have an aftermarket aluminum intake and a Carter fuel pump. So I had to tweak the line, especially the lower curve from the pump because of adapter fitting, but that has been a great solution.
For the 427 going into the short step I bought factory 375 hp 396 lines from a '68 Camaro that would have had short pulley setup, high rise intake, and a Holley carb. You can get the carb lines in two sizes. One to fit the original, smaller bowl fittings and a set that fits the standard Holley bowl fittings which is what I bought.

Ned, what do you have at the carb end? Is it just a hose nipple screwed into the carb inlet? If so I would recommend Edelbrock's fuel line/filter kit. You could use a steel line after that to the pump, but you would need to find the correct nut to screw onto the fitting on the end of the fuel filter, which is a -6 AN male. The correct size line is 3/8 OD from the pump to the carb on a V8. I used the line/filter kit and then put a regulator on after that and made my own line to the pump from the regulator. I used Weatherhead (Eaton Hydraulics) braided stainless steel w/teflon inner tube and crimped ends. I have a pic of the Edelbrock line/filter but I don't have a pic of the hose that I made. It screws into the brass fitting on the side of the regulator. Hope this helps.

Great ideas from everyone - thanks! 70STOVEBOLT, I have admired you set up since I first saw that. I too was thinking about the fuel line kit you mentioned with the filter attached - they also have the connectorized braided line that I am hoping with thread on properly at the pump. That is how I would like to go about this.

Ned, the braided fuel line a lot of places sell is actually rubber line with the stainless steel braiding on the outside. Here is what I used, the hose has a teflon inner tube, and then I crimped these ends on it.

70Stovebolt, I like your setup too. Could you give me some advice on that? I can't seem to make heads nor tails of these "AN" fittings and no one seems to be able to help me when I called Jegs and Summit.

The AN fittings have a 45 degree tapered seat. The red anodized fitting on my set up is a #6 AN female swivel, with 3/8 male pipe threads on the other end. There is also what is called a JIC fitting that has a 37 degree tapered seat. They are typically made of steel, whereas the AN fittings are aluminum or brass. Most of the "high performance" products for gasoline are the AN variety for whatever reason. AN stands for "Army Navy" as this was a standard used by the military in WWII.
