Hey guys,
Thought it was about time to start a build thread. It was always my dream to build an american pickup and at age 22 i thought what better time I bought this 56 out of Victorville california bout 8 months ago and finally landed it in Sydney Australia. Thankfully NO rust. I wont bother listing all the mods and cons i am going to be doing to it. take wayyy to long This is from when i bought it ... Couple of pictures of where i am up to now .. |

Welcome
That looks like a real nice truck to start with. You do have to give us some idea of what you have planned for it. Kim |

Welcome to the forum. That is a great looking truck. Most guys would kill to have a finished truck as nice as your "starter" truck.

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
great to see an Aussie build thread, following with interest. Will start my own, hopefully in 2012.
Interested to see the shaved stake holes, and bed sides. What are your plans for rear indicators ? Scott |

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Thanks..
Yea it is a good starting base. Looks alot better then it is, the camaro clip is terrible and any welding done is not good. Who ever built the truck was not an enthusiast. Im guessing it was rushed. Being is Aus parts are VERY hard to get. So this truck having all new chrome, one piece window kit, camaro clip, posi rear end, 4 wheel disc brakes. it was what i needed to be cost effective in the long run. The future of the truck is... . Full air ride, c notched, parallel 4 link . 20 x 8.5 Intro Retro wheels ( 5 inch offset on the rear) . House of kolour Black . raised wood bed that will raise on linear actuators . polished ally fuel cell under bed with a holly fuel system. . Shaved mirrors, Fuel hole, bed chains . Boxed and smoothed chassis . Smoothed inner fenders and firewall . Red leather bench seat, door trims and steering wheel . Tilt billet steering column . Complete re-wire . It has a 305 at the moment. Going to put a 350 block under it, a large cam nothing to serious just something that sounds really good. Im sure there will be alot more but they are the major things. Also how do you guys upload your photos? i use photobucket and my pics are huge on the page. B. |

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
could you use LED reverse lights, one horizontal rectangular array either side of the licence plate?

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Bit of a update..
Things are going slow. waiting for parts ordered the airride and 4 link this week so they should be here soon. Finished the raised floor frame. Now just got to find the right wood im after. Ordered 2 linear actuators for the bed floor, they are the same price as the gas struts i need for the weight. So why not Here is a picture of the wheels im going to be using. Got two boxes from bothers trucks and lmc full of goodies. Gauge bezel, new rubbers for everything, cab mounting kit, wiper motor and arms all the small things. |

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
Fat56,
Your truck rocks! I have a quick question about your steps on the bed. What are you going to do about the 2 bolts that hold the steps to the brace?

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
It must have taken a lot of nerve to chop that beauty up, but it seems that you know what you want and how to make it.
I'm wishing two things: Wish mine looked as good as that when you got it, and wish I had the wheels and tires you removed, LOL. |

Re: 56 chevy build (Aus)
So its been a while since a update.
But alot of parts have finally turned up, accuair air management system, 60l polished fuel tank, billet steering column and steering wheel. So i have been busy. couple of photos .. Dash Before - if you look close enough you can see i left some bondo that was 5mm thick on the dash. Dash all smooth Mock up of some new parts Air Management System firewall before - someone had some real fun with a hammer making some room for the valve covers. Almost Finished Here are a couple of photos of the REALLY BAD install on the front clip. Not safe at all. As i said this truck was a woof is sheeps clothing. Photo of my two mates trucks unfortunately both fords but still good cruisers Last edited by fat56; 12-15-2011 at 08:44 AM. |
