Converting a 68 hood to a 72. UPDATED.
Ok here we go. I decided to use the worst of my 68 hoods and the free 72 hood I got on the green truck some of you might remember me getting a couple of weeks ago and do the conversion that Kevin did the write-up on. Ya'll will remember the write-up when you see what I did. I don't mean for this to be a write-up, Kevin did a hell of a job on his. I just wanted to show again how easy this mod is. I've been working on it about 10 hours so far and it is looking good. I wanted to keep the larger chrome that is stock on the 72's so I decided this was the way to go.

Here are a few on the truck. I am currently doing the round stock on the lip to fine tune the gap between the upper grill and hood lip. I will take more pics tomorrow as the project progresses.

Looking good Nico, I guess you decided going this way cause those 67-68 gmc upper trim pieces are really hard to find. You actually make this mod look easier than Kevin's. Keep the pics rolling, I have 4 67-68 hoods and 7 69-72s, I will defetnelly try doing this when I get a chance.

It would work on your truck!! I did read on Kevin's write-up when he did this for Lowbuck that the repro hoods where different in the latch bulkhead area. I don't know if you would be able to do this with a cowl hood or not. my .02

The 69-72 cowl hoods look better, IMHO. Here's the one I'm using.

Re: Converting a 68 hood to a 72. Pics.
Slick, I've always liked the look of the early hoods better on these trucks. I want a cowl hood so I don't know if I'm brave enough to start cutting on one of those.
Now I'll have to find the link to Kevin's thread. |

Re: Converting a 68 hood to a 72. Pics.
Ok. Still not really done but made a bunch of progress on the front lip and gap on the passenger's side. The rest will have to be finished with body filler. I am very happy with the way it turned out and my gaps are very nice. Still need to adjust a little. enjoy.
