Tach wiring
I recently purchased an aftermarket tach on ebay and have some wiring questions. The Tach I bought did not come with any wiring, and I am wondering if I need shielded cable or what to wire it up?
I am installing a HEI soon, but want to wire it to my stock distributor. Do I just run a wire to power and one to the distributor?? Any help would be great!!!

It's been a while since I hooked a tach up without it already having a HEI installed but if memory serves me correctly, the positive side of the tach is for a 12v and the negitive side of the tach hooks to the negitive side of the coil. Let someone else here verify this though first - if you hook it up wrong you'll FRY your new tach.

There should be 4 wires...red, black, white and green.
The green goes to the negitive side of your coil...or the TACH terminal on the HEI. The red is ignition power. the white is dash light power. the black is ground. |

For the white wire, where do you hook that one to? I know it goes to a light source but how and where would you phsyically put it?

For the white wire, should be dash panel lights. Either check your fuse box for a positive with the light switch is on. Or to one of the two grey wires at the connector to the dash (according to the wiring on GMC Pauls site)
