Friend killed
Last Friday a childhood friend of mine was killed in a motorcycle accident. I didn't know any details of the accident until yesterday.
Apparently this took place around dusk and he and a buddy were riding their Harleys around Waynesburg PA on I-79. I'm not sure if they were coming off ramp or not but an 18 wheeler hit my friend and ran over him with the front tires. Then two other cars also ran him over. None of these people stopped. Another lady who happened to be a nurse stopped but there wasn't anything to do. The other rider was in such shock he couldn't remember what type of cars, license plates or hardly any details. I hope these people step forward. Maybe they thought they hit a deer or something, maybe they are afraid. I had taken many bike trips with this friend in the past and he was always an extra careful rider (unlike me at the time). If you ride a bike be careful and watch out for the other drivers on the road. If you hit something don't assume it was nothing, check it out. This friend left behind a wife and two girls, one a freshman and one a senior. He will be missed.

I'm real sorry for your loss,it's a shame there are people like that in this world who don't take the time to stop and see what happen. hope the other rider gets his memory back so they can hang those bastards.

this hit and run stuff seems to be ramped theses days, people sure don't want to owe up to there mistakes, just in the last three weeks theres been 4 hit and runs around here involving cyclists, sorry to hear about your friend

So sorry for the loss and for the family at this time of year. It is never a good time but Thanksgiving seems worse by the name.
People are so afraid of honest mistakes with the law like it is now that even good people are scared. I am sure it was an accident and hope that they come forward as well and the law takes care of them in the appropriate manner.

very sad i will keep yall in my thoughts... and i would hope the people involved would turn themselves in although sadly people these days have less and less consience and prolly wont i hope somoene who saw somehting could maybe drop a quarter

Sorry to hear this, I lost a friend to a motorcycle accident 3 weeks ago. This one was his fault, he mis-judged a turn and lost control. (One of the few times that someone else wasn't at fault) I can't tell you how many times that I've been cut off by inattentive assholes. You really have to watch out for the other people around you. The first thing that I learned is that on a bike, I'm invisible to most people, and the ones that do see me just don't give a fvck.

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers. His family needs them much more than I. I will pass on the word that even total strangers are thinking of them. Great to be a part of a caring board like this one.

Chuck hate to here that, I've lost 4 good friends in the past year or so. It's hard when your close to em'. I know several guys that ride and kinda worry everytime I hear of a crash, wonderin' if their in it. Hang in there bud, your in our thoughts and prayers. Weasel

that is awful. my uncle had something similar happen to him on a bike but he is alive. he came off an inramp coming down a hill and when he got on a truck of soem kind him hit and sent him flying like 20 feet and shattered his helmet. but this was years ago

I just ordered a new Big Dog Chopper and everyone has told me the same thing - that I am stupid for wanting to ride a motorcycle. This thread is a perfect example of why people feel the way they do. I drive my S-10 about 100-180 miles a day for work and I avoid wrecks on a daily basis. 27 years of driving at work and NO ACCIDENTS. I am an extremely cautious and defensive driver and I plan to extend these habits to my motorcycle riding. I can only pray that I will never have an accident like the one described here.
Chucks, please add me to the list of those who have expressed their condolences. My thoughts and prayers are with your friend's family.

Damn sorry to hear that Chucks70. As a biker myself, it's always hard to hear another brother has fallen. I guess I'll be the one to ask what nobody else has... is there anything that we can do to help? I haven't got a lot, but I'm always willing to put it on the table for a fellow biker.

We can all relate to this story.
My condolences to the family and friends of your buddy. Truckers drive a lot of miles, and see a lot of stuff. I drive a bus, but that doesn't keep me safe. Truckers with cell phones on interstates at off/on ramps and merging traffic is a bit too much to be able to pay proper heed to everything going on around them. Personally, I wish that cell phone usage was banned in vehicles...not that this was contributory. Sadly, somebody knows who hit him and who ran over him afterwards, but they probably think the OTHER person is going to contact the authorities. It's so sad....
