8 Lug Disc Conversion?
I have a 1969 GMC 3/4 ton long bed, step side that I'm working on redoing. The project has been stalled for about a year due to lack of funds and lack of time. Both of those have changed and I'm ready to start up where I left off. So...
The truck has 8 lug drums all around. I'm wanting to upgrade the fronts to disc. Any advice for pulling this off? I can find 6 lug kits everywhere, but what can I do for 8 lug? Thanks! |

Pull the front suspension, crossmember and everything, from a 71 and up c20. Square bodies are plentiful. Grab the master cylinder, booster, and proportioning valve too. As far as a kit, I'm sure there is someone out there who makes them. I just haven't found any for a reasonable price.

The picture of an '80 cross member that 70's luvr has above shows pressed steel brackets that the upper A-arms bolt to. That truck probably had the c channel brace, inside the frame rail. My '67 and I'm not sure what other years had forged steel brackets and no c channel brace. The later style has the brake lines and the Combination Valve mounted on the small cross member, under the radiator. There is a brake line connector under the passenger side floor board. Take all the brake lines from the connector forward and everything including the flex brake lines will bolt in place. Try using your old brake lines and you will be on here with a new post trying to figure out what new flex lines you need to jury rig your mix matched parts.
