What have you guys used for sound deadening in your cab? There are so many choice out there that I'm just looking for the best bang for the buck

Re: Sound deadner
Fat Mat off Fleabay. I have used several brands including Dynamat and also wanted a less expensive option. Fat Mat XXX Extreme actually sticks better than the Dynamat. Works awsome.

Re: Sound deadner
look up "ezcool" insulations. works good for insulating heat and sound. I like it and use it in evertything. I just use 3m super77 adhesive and stick it where ever I need it

Re: Sound deadner
I used ez cool in mine as well. 2 rolls off ebay cost $65 and did the whole inside. It worked as a sound deadener AND heat/ cool insulation. My vintage air works better because of it. I don't get that heat coming through the firewall like a lot of people do, either.

Re: Sound deadner
It's disturbing to say the least that good info seems to be so hard to find, even when you do lots of research. I did TONS of reading before choosing Fatmat, but did not get the info posted in the above reply saying it was asphalt based. It doesn't smell, feel or cut like any asphalt stuff I've ever used. On floors I guess it doesn't matter as much but I put it in the doors and in the roof. Seemed to really stick well and I hope I don't have a problem. I used Lizard skin on the firewall because of the setback and the big block heat producer. Found the same thing when I researched that stuff. Lots of people claiming it was overpriced and you could make your own, etc. Guess I'll know in a couple of months. The old country song comes to mind, "truth is hard to come by."

Re: Sound deadner
Newfisher, how is the quality?
I want something that will quiet the cab down to the point I don't hear anything unless I stomp on the engine. (I know it's unrealistic, but I'd like to get as close as I can.) |

Re: Sound deadner
I was very surprised. i didn't cut it into strips and strategically place them, I covered the whole floor, fire wall ,roof, inner doors ( at an angle to shed water) and rear panel. I then tape all of the seams with aluminum foil.

Re: Sound deadner
NEWFISHER curious as to what you mean by "at an angle to shed water". I have a 51 that I plan to cover the inner doors and they don't appear to have much of an angle on them.

Re: Sound deadner
I was wondering how that was going to work inside the doors. I'm still planning on using a combination of materials depending the area of the car it's in. I've suffered through too much noise and too much heat or cold getting in for way too long and would like some level of comfort this time.

Re: Sound deadner
I may as well be the one to post it: The best bang for buck is Peel 'N Seal from Home Depot or Lowes.
Someone will inevitably chime in and say it smells in the heat. It doesn't but you don't have to take my word for it. Search here, search the HAMB, Google it. There are LOTS of guys who swear by it including guys from very hot weather areas like Phoenix. Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: Sound deadner
Check out this stuff:
http://www.raamaudio.com/ I've read good things about it and it's nowhere near as expensive as Dynamat. It is butyl based not asphalt. I've had some real bad experiences with asphalt sound deadners-not sticking to panel after a few months and melting during summer months. Real "ugly"! |

Re: Sound deadner
Peel Seal and Fat Mat are about the same price if you shop around. I used the Fat Mat stuff and it worked well.

Re: Sound deadner
Fatmat might be slightly more money but I just wasn't willing to take the chance on my project getting something from Home Depot that I couldn't completely trust. I live in So. AZ and that smell is a scary thought.

Re: Sound deadner
I never had any odor in my truck but the leather, could not smell the P&S, must have been another brand, Seven years later still no bad odors!

http://www.stevemeadedesigns.com/boa...hts-on-fatmat/ This guy says Fat Mat and Peel & Seal are the same stuff. Goes on to talk about asphalt based deadners being inferior as I found out the hard way. I did a brand new F150 a few years ago with an asphalt based deadner, removed the door panels about 9 months later to find that 75% of it had released from the panels and was just hanging there. |

Re: Sound deadner
yeah well, it only gets hot up here a few days out of the year and that's into the 90's. Nothing like Phoenix. I forgot all about the peel and seal discussion on the HAMB, thanks Dan
