Amp Research Powerstep
Has anyone figured out how to mount a set of electric running boards from Amp Research? I'm going to be running 35's with a 5" lift and the significant other is going to need help getting in. Hell, it will make it a lot easier for me too.

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
I looked into something like this, but the torque box prevented me from using it because there was no room behind the rocker to hide the mechanism. I went with a permanently mounted step.

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
I've always wondered what the purpose of those boxes were. Anyone know? Surely you can fab something up where those steps can be mounted. I think they're awesome, like the best of both worlds. Expensive but awesome.

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
Torsion boxes. Provide support for the body, especially when doors are open. Too bad gm didn't use full box frame, instead of C channel, so they wouldn't be needed. These steps or competing styles should be fairly straight forward to modify to work on the blazer/Jimmy.

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
I like the idea, because I have to keep a milk crate in the back for my wife to climb in. I can see the torque boxes being a big problem. The price is also a big problem for me.
I took a look at the mechanism for the door steps on my motorhome. It doesn't seem all that complicated, and unless I'm way off, it seems to be powered by a windshield wiper motor. I may go the route of designing my own step when I get that far in my build. My second choice would be to have a step that has a permanent mount but with some type of breakaway. |

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
I already covered the bottom of the Blazer in Line-X so I need a bolt on option. It would be awesome to have the steps hide up in the rocker box, but that would take some custom fab work...
AMP doesn't picture any of their brackets so its hard to tell what might work. |

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
I've been interested in doing this as well. I'm trying to find a used set for mockup. Let me know if you get anywhere

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
Leno has a bronco that ICON built and has a single step. Almost looks like they cut one in half and used it. I contacted AMP and they said this.
The steps you see in the video with Jay Leno are made for the Broncos made by Icon. These are exclusive to Icon at this time. They are not available for purchase through us. And from the information I have they are not able to sell the steps except for with the vehicle. Please let me know if you have any questions. If you get a hold of that guy with the Jimmy, get some pics!

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
How exactly did you mount them? Sheet metal screws to the rocker box? Custom brackets?

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
Well, after reading this thread a few days ago, it provided enough info to help me figure out an issue with my current steps plan. I have some older Kodiak sidewinder steps that I was hoping to install on my rig but the damn rocker boxes messed up everything so to avoid way too much re-fabbing I started searching for jeep wrangler electric steps and found a set locally for a great price, so I drove 2 hours to go get them.
They are made by Aries automotive...: https://www.ariesautomotive.com/runn...running-boards so, although I can't use the same brackets as they were for the Wrangler 4 door version, my friend who is a fabricator said they would be alot easier to install than the sidewinders, so we are going down that road. We may have to use nutserts and make new brackets and of course cut some of the length off one end since the end caps are removable.

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
Those boards look good. When we made the brackets that hold the boards we connected them to the bottom of the cab not the frame. I was concerned about the frame twisting and flexing on turns and such. Just something to think about. Good luck

Found another option from a company in Utah. www.rockslideengineering.com
These are for a F150 Raptor and they have other truck and Jeep models.... You can see a vide of them in the link below... https://youtu.be/yQg8-ie9ge0 |

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
Bestop makes steps very similar to the AMP Research steps. Maybe they would be more accommodating for a custom setup.

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
Try looking into this. Once I finish other projects this is on my list. I wanted a retractable one as well to keep the body lines clean, especially a single step instead of the full board. Haven't seen much info on these though, but haven't looked to hard lately.

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
ICON got back with me and said they want $1250 for their version! ouch.
I wonder how much these from Stylin will be...

I definitely want full length steps. I want to be able to climb into the bed from the steps...

Like this... I tried to find any info but other than this video... nothing... looks like they built some custom reinforcement into the floor for them... just wish i knew what they were off of so i could start to watch for some... Hinge mechanisms are specific to something... i know the ones on my duramax dont fold up like that... just at a angle next to the cab

Re: Amp Research Powerstep
Agree, different style trucks are visible at all times. My brother 15 f-250 that we just did fold up COMPLETELY under the truck you see absolutely nothing. This has got to be possible....
