power steering ?
I am in need of a steering coupler/rag joint. I have a 68 4X4, that the PO put power steering on. Does anybody know the GM part number I need? What is the going price for these things? And finally, should I go for a new one or ask for a used one on the parts board? Is there anything else I should know before I buy one?

Someone here will have one. last one I bought at a junk yard was $20.00 . I don't think you will have much luck buying a new one from gm. I never have. I think they run about $45.00 from some companies

i have a rag joint in my garage i'm not going to use. you can buy them at the "Help!" section at any auto parts store for cheap - like less than ten bucks

Over the years, I bought two whole, new, 71/72 4x4 steering couplers that included the rag disc. One from LMC and one from GMCPauls. Both were the same repro part made in Taiwan. Both splined hubs on them needed to be spread to get them on the steering gear without destroying the splines or having to hammer on them and risk damaging the steering gear internals. Both seemed fine, otherwise.
Oh, both came with a coupler-to-steering-gear-shaft, hex headed retainer bolt instead of the GM style 12-point headed bolt. The 12-point bolt better allows a socket in the tight confines. I simply reused the original 12-point bolts. Next time, I'll investigate what GM still offers. Last time I checked, just the rag disc thru a dealer cost more than a whole repro coupler. Hopefully, ya still get what ya pay for thru GM on this.
