newb here! just purchased a 68

Just wanted to say whats up love this place a lot of beautiful trucks! I've own a few 87's and was looking to get into a 67-72 truck and about a month a go ran into a farmer here in west texas and decided to purchase his old pickup. Wasnt looking to purchase one anytime soon but ran into this so I picked it up. Doesnt run but he just had it sitting at his farm going to waste so decided to pull the trigger and bring it home. I plan to start from the frame up using all porterbuilt products. Not a fan of the stepside so I do plan on keeping an eye out for another bed. Anyways here are of few pics

its already sitting how I like it haha

Welcome to the board! Be very careful about the frame off. They can turn into years of down time. You gonna do a build thread?

If I may offer a little advice don't listen [or read ]if you don't want to but I say get it running and driving then make sure it is safe brakes and suspension and drive for a while. There are tons of people on here that wish they had done that. You have these to enjoy for the most part and it is hard to do that when it is scattered all over the place. Then you get stuck on something in the build and it sits. Try getting on the road to enjoy for at least this summer . And if you need help when it is time and you get stuck on body stuff look me up

Welcome from Central Florida! Looks like a sweet stepper. You shouldn't have any trouble selling that bed.

Re: newb here! just purchased a 68

Welcome and Congrats ..

You see Fleets all the time (there's a reason for that too, they look awesome) but there's just something about the step side I like too. I personally have both but I think that truck would look best to keep the step bed. That way the patina matches, etc.

If you're going to paint it then of course it doesn't matter .. but .. Nothing wrong with a stepper !

What's up with the high hump?

I might think about another side mirror but that's about it. Get it running good and just drive it IMO.

Re: newb here! just purchased a 68

along the lines Hugger mentioned, you could make it driveable and get you another short wide frame and start building that frame, that way you can still have fun with the truck and keep yourself from ending up like me .....9 year long build !

Re: newb here! just purchased a 68

I appreciate it! I work a lot so its going to be hard to find time to work on this truck but I plan to take my time on it. Once I start getting it down to frame and ordering parts I will post more pics at that time.

Welcome to the board and Cool truck for sure.. the easy part is tearing it apart, the hard part is putting it back together.

Really .. I don't think I'd even wash it. Get it running and stopping good, get it dependable and just drive it for a while. Maybe next spring you can do full drop members and really get it down on the ground. (from your comments, I assume you're going to drop it)

Very nice, i think the step side looks great also. Good luck and make yourself a plan, do things a step at a time. You'll find a lot of help here, make sure and post pics of your progress.

Re: newb here! just purchased a 68

Welcome to the board and nice truck. I agree with alot of the comments on here. Get it running and driveable and enjoy it for a little while then maybe tear it down later if you want to. I immediately tore mine down and now i'm 2 1/2 years in with no end in sight. 67cheby had a great idea, pick up another SWB frame and build that on the side while still being able to drive and enjoy the truck. I would also leave it a stepper, i'm throwing around the idea of changing mine to a stepper.
