Bucket seats 1972 Camper Special
Hi Guys, I have a Question, I wonder if U could help? I'm looking for seats for my 1972 GMC Camper special, I am offered these seats from, allegedly, a '72 Blazer, can anybody tell me exactly what is the difference? Do they have the same height? Can I Just take the plastic back off since they go in a Pick-up? What about the passenger side track?

Re: Bucket seats 1972 Camper Special
First off those are 73 and up Blazer seats. The seats them selves are the same as the 72 truck and Blazer seats, just different covers and passenger side track. You are correct in just removing the back panel for truck applications. The passenger seat in a truck used a fixed pedestal. They are available in the parts forum from time to time as well as reproduced. If you decide not use them they would sell in the parts forum. They look like a nice start to some buckets for some one.

Re: Bucket seats 1972 Camper Special
Hi, Thanks for your reply's, I wonder can I use this Passenger side track in my Pick-up? I removed the Gas tank in hopes of gaining some storage in the cab, but since my current bench seat does not flip forward, I can't get much in there. Did the '73 up have the same floor mounts as the '67-72 trucks?

Re: Bucket seats 1972 Camper Special
73-up Mounts are different and will not work in our trucks without a lot of modification.

Re: Bucket seats 1972 Camper Special
The seats will still not mount correctly in your truck even if you use 69-72 brackets on 73-up seats. They STILL tilt too far back and hit the cab.

Re: Bucket seats 1972 Camper Special
And the passenger seat tilts too far forward and hits the windshield if you use them in a Blazer.

Re: Bucket seats 1972 Camper Special
For sure the +73 brackets are taller.
I made my own brackets from bench seat sliders and mounted them to '75 model buckets. Basically the seats are the same but the brackets are different.

Re: Bucket seats 1972 Camper Special
I have had those seats and the mounts.....here is the first hand truth about 73-7 low back buckets.
1. The lower skirt at the rear is angled up which means 69-72 upholstery will not fit right, you can add a pie shaped section of steel making the bottom straight back and the upholstery will fit fine as the hog ring loops are in the right location. 2. The upper foam is different at the top, it can be built up to fill out the 69-72 seat upholstery. I think 73-4 seats the upper foam is very similar to 69-72. 3. The seat frames will accommodate 69-72 truck or blazer mounts and fit the cab of 69-72 trucks properly, they do not tilt back as stated in one post above. 4. The drivers side slider on 73-7 can be modified to have the proper rake for 69-72 trucks. Replace the front lower foot with one from a bench seat, its the same as the bucket seat front foot. The rear foot is similar enough to not require mods. The upper brackets on the 73-7 mounts are about 1" too tall, they can be cut down, I have the exact measurements in my notebook in the shop, I just did a set using original 72 bucket sliders for reference. Making the passenger tilting seat brackets from a 73-7 seat fit 69-72 trucks or blazers is not practical at all. If you buy the seats and remove the backs I need the screws that attach the backs. PM me if you want to sell them. |
