Question Brake assist

does anyone know where i can find info on a dash lever brake assist? I am assuming its a brake assist. It is connected to the master cylinder via T fitting. Any time you hit the brake, a small cylinder extends down and pushes on the lever. And it appears by pressing down, you activate the brake lights. So i am confused on how this thing is supposed to work. Anybody got a clue??
I gots me a 1964 GMC Suburban. I've only had it for a week, and I love it!! Bad suspension and all!!!

Re: Brake assist

all I can think of is you may be thinking of the hydraulicly activated trailer brake switch.. some of the older mid 60's trucks (50 series and bigger with hyd. brakes) had a "leverlock" which was like a manual hill holder ,or linelock.. you would press the brake pedal , and flip the lever up or down and it would hold the brakes on till you flipped the lever again...

Re: Brake assist

thats exactly how i figured this thing worked, but just for the burb. I didnt think it was for a trailer. MY burb does have a hitch, but i figured it was of the newer type, and not so old school, but i guess i can be wrong. I'll get some pics up. maybe you can tell me how to take it out, just so i can maintenance it.

Re: Brake assist

if it has 3 or 4 wires coming out of the back you can be sure it is a brake control ... if it aint leaking and you plan on towing a trailer , you may want to keep it....
