Tow hook question
I picked up a set of tow hooks off a 72 3/4ton 4wd this weekend. One hook is a 72 extreme bend and the other is a 69-71 hook. Is it possible they were installed that way from the factory? Seems strange to have a mismatched set.

Re: Tow hook question
I would doubt if it left the factory like that. Want to trade your extreme bend for a match to your other one possibly?

Re: Tow hook question
I checked with the owner and he said it does have tow hooks listed on the SPID. Kinda interesting.

Re: Tow hook question
My set was mis matched and they were listed on the spid. Also was original owner, he said he tried to warranty the "bent" one when new and the dealer told him no. I sold the 69-72 and bought a single extreme.

Re: Tow hook question
Thanks for the info guys. Looking as though it could have been a factory install.
I contacted the owner because he had the truck listed for sale on cragislist. I saw the hooks and wanted them. He was asking $4500 for the truck and said he would separate the hooks for me. When I showed up to get them, he mentioned that he decided he wanted to keep the truck. He had just been to a car show and saw a few nice 67-72 trucks. When I contacted him again to see about the spid having tow hooks, I also mentioned that I might one day be interested in buying the truck. It's pretty straight and original 4wd trucks that aren't beat and rusted out are getting harder to find. I told him to write my # down an put it in the glovebox. He quickly wrote back and asked what I'd pay for the truck. Well, I met with him this evening and drove the truck home. I couldn't pass up a really good deal. The front end is really tight. Has new brakes and runs good and strong. The 4 speed pops out of 3rd but I'm sure I can figure that out. Has rust in the rockers, a little in the cab corners, and the bottom of one door. Core support and inner fenders are solid. Same with the cab supports. And just minor dings and dents here and there. I have 2 of these trucks now. Bringing the total to 5 of these trucks I've owned. Here are some pics. Also threw in a pic of dad's new 2015 2500 gmc and the other 72. |
