Power steering question

Hey all, I've got a buddy that is parting out a '70 chevy 2wd long wheel base pickup. It has power steering, and I was wondering if I could transfer the power steering to my '69 gmc 2wd truck very easily? I also was wondering what I should expect to pay, since he didn't shoot me a price. Just an idea for a fair price for the both of us from anyone that would know would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Power steering question

Yep, it will swap right over. One thing to watch is that you may have to make a little bit of clearance room on the frame behind the box on some frames. I did the same swap on a 70 without issues about 22 years ago.

Re: Power steering question

Prices are not set in stone, this is just my experience from doing the same swap. I got lucky and bought a steering box from a board member for $25,with shipping I had about $60 in it. I've seen prices on boxes vary from 25 t0 100 dollars.I got my pump, brackets and pulleys from a junkyard for $50. I had to buy a rag joint, got a new one from Advance for about $35, New pressure hose, also from Advance about $20( I made my own return line),and I bought a new pitman arm,I think it was about 30-35 dollars .Hope this helps.

Re: Power steering question

I bought my set up used for $80. It included the box, pitman arm, pump, brackets and pulley. All I need to get are the lines and a rag joint.

Re: Power steering question

On your 69 model, there will be no frame clearance problems. The 69 frame have the dimple in them already.

Re: Power steering question

since he is a buddy offer him 60 -80 for the complete setup, you could even offer up your non PS parts back to him.
