EEC Or non EEC Fuel tank !! HELP PLEASE !!

I have a 1972 c10 with an EEC FUEL tank that I need to replace. I think all the EEC parts are there I don’t know if it all works properly. I want to know if I should go with the EEC or non EEC. The local guys I talk to say get rid of the EEC it’s just more parts to maintain. What are the pros and cons? Also what tank is better Zinc galvanized OR Tin plated and why?

I would just go with the non EEC also. Don't for get to get a vented cap. The EEC just provides a closed vent, to the charcoal canister and to the carb. Most are basically non functional after a few years anyway.

The EEC tank just has an extra tube on the passenger's side for the canister. You can block it off if you don't want to use it. There should be a vent on the sending unit, which should be left open (outside the cab), since the gas cap is non-vented.

thewre is no vent on the sending unit// if you plug up that extra hose you screw up the venting of the gas tank

Re: EEC Or non EEC Fuel tank !! HELP PLEASE !!

Put a EEC tank back in. If you don't you or you cap off the vapor lines to the charcoal canister you may get gas fumes in your cab. If you put a vented gas cap on you will get gas fumes outside your truck. If it's parked in a garage you will smell the gas fumes. My truck did not come stock with a EEC tank, however the previous owner installed one and capped of the vapor line. I did not know this when I installed a new non- vented locking gas cap. I had constant gas smell in my cab especially on a hot days. I did,t want the stink in my garage so I opted to install the EEC system...charcoal canister and vapor lines. No more stink.

My sending unit has a 1/4" vent pipe on it. I put a hose on it and ran it outside the cab.

Re: EEC Or non EEC Fuel tank !! HELP PLEASE !!

Thanks guys for all the help. I think I might go with an EEC tank if it will help with the fuel smell…. I haven’t seen any response to the question about the tank finish …. Does anyone know what tank is better Zinc galvanized OR Tin plated and why?

Re: EEC Or non EEC Fuel tank !! HELP PLEASE !!

My dad capped off the charcoal canister God knows when? 1970's? Anyway, I had it in my garage for 7 years and had no gasoline fumes. Maybe I was lucky?

FORGOT SOMETHING! I also noticed the canister vent line rubber was cracked....so bascially it was venting under the cab to the outside for God knows how long!

I am going back with the original set up myself.
