I think I paid about 1200 for my vintage air kit, which did not include the compressor.

There is a good FAQ about the install on the Board somewhere...

I had to modify my cab to fit the AC heater core and evaporator boxes. That was just time and junk sheet metal. That is a heck of a lot cheaper than a $1200 aftermarket system.

Re: Adding A/C to a non A/C cab?
Since you're in Austin, and not god-awful far away. You might give Shane Gill a call. He owns Lucky's Rod & Kustom in Ennis,Tx. He sells aftermarket A/C kits. I bought the kit for my truck for $675 out the door (p/u in person). Complete w/compressor, brackets, and all the bells and whistles. Mine has not been started up yet, as the truck is not complete yet. But installation went well. Shane is a very nice guy, and more than willing to help out with questions over the phone. He's even answered questions for me about my EZ wiring harness, which I did not buy from him.
My boss bought a system from Shane for his 56 ford, and it works great. His website is www.freewebs.com/luckysrodandkustom Jay
