Front suspension swap

I'm new to the forums, and my truck is a 1969 gmc custom 2wd, with a 350 v8.
I'm wondering about swapping out the front suspension with that of a more modern car, is there anything that's "easy" or popular with these trucks, sort of like the crown vic swaps in late sixties ford pickups.

Thanks, Hunty

Re: Front suspension swap

Welcome from Northern California. As for your question, I can't help you out because I'm one of those old timers that like my drum brake, no sway bar equipped trucks! I know others will chime in soon to help you out.

PS, we need pics!

Re: Front suspension swap

Welcome!! Try any GM truck from 1973 up to about 1986.The entire front crossmember will bolt up with one hole on each side to modify.Or you can mix and match parts to change it over.A search will net you more info than you can read.Get the PS and PB while you're there. You even have the option of staying 6 lug or going to the 5 lug pattern.

Re: Front suspension swap

Not sure if you found a swap but i have been researching myself, seems like the 73-87 crossmember with 5bolt disk brakes is what ill be doing, bigger components, stronger and then ill know for sure what MOOG parts to get later down the road, ball joints, pads, tie rods, pitman, idler arms and bushings, its an easy swap just two maybe three holes need to be drilled.

Re: Front suspension swap

Is there a thread on here showing the swap being done? I can get the stuff from the local pull-a-part, just don't know what to get. I want to use the 73-87 stuff because I don't have a few thousand to drop on the aftermarket stuff. I would have to live in the truck because my wife would kill me when I got home. Haha

Re: Front suspension swap

Rusty basicly you take the front crossmember and whole front suspension. But before you use it i would rebuild the brakes and a arms so you have it all new and ready to be used.
