1966 GMC front turn signals
I am trying to re-assemble my new lenses to the housings in a way that they will snap back into place. I drilled out the original brass rivets, thinking I could pop rivet or screw them back in,but that won't work without hitting the hood and keeping them from snapping all the way in.
I did a search, and found a link to how to do it,but the link was dead. Any help would be greatly appreciated. -Ken |

Re: 1966 GMC front turn signals
Thanks for the link-I think I'll do the scotchlock modification to keep them on all the time once I get them back together.
I'm still looking for alternatives to the rivets, though, since my replacement lenses didn't come with any rivets. I did some more searching and found these: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...+GMC+park+lens http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...306951&page=13 I think I'll try the trick with the machine screws if I can get to the hardware store tomorrow. -Ken Last edited by Hardworkinguy; 05-10-2016 at 08:57 PM. |

Re: 1966 GMC front turn signals
Final update: I actually found the rivets at a local hardware store in one of those aisle-long hardware displays full of pull-out drawers. I was shocked-that store never has what I need! They are 1/8 diameter,5/16" long.
I put a punch in my vice, had my wife hold the lamp assy with the rivet head on the punch, and I peened them over, first with a 45º center punch and then finished with another flat punch. |

Re: 1966 GMC front turn signals
nice i got some with my lenses and have had to drill the housings out to accommodate them. I also picked up some very fine machine screws from the hobby shop as an alternative since I am doing the LED strip conversion I want the lenses removable as a preference for servicing
