Brake boosters

Does anyone know if a brake booster diaphragm will dry out from just sitting around? I found one that has been sitting, off the truck, for about a year. Is there a way to test them besides installing it and trying it out?

Thanks,
Mark

I would suppose they can but I think the diaphragms are made out of pretty good stuff. If you have some way of drawing a vacuum on it to see if it holds it, that would work. Whatever you used would have to have a gauge on it. I tested mine with my Harbor Freight vacuum brake bleeder.

Re: Brake boosters

So put a vacuum on the fitting that goes to the intake manifold and see if it holds? Would a hand vacuum pump work?

Exactly. A hand pump would be fine
