history question

I have aqquired what is registered as a 1981 chev 3/4 ton
4x4 with a short box. I have been told that this vechicle was ordered from the factory from a dealer. I have never seen a set up like this before and have several friends who say it can't be stock.
It sure looks stock::

i have never personally seen a factory 3/4 ton SWB truck, nor have i heard of any. i have helped build a few, and know guys on here that have them. just because people say it doesnt or shouldnt exist, doesnt mean that its not the real thing. sometimes "special" vehicles get out of the factory. for instance, i have a very close riend with a '72 GTO convertable. you cant find parts for it, because everyone says they dont exist. i've seen the build sheet for the car, and it is in fact genuine. here's a pic of a 3/4 4x4 SWB that some of you may or may not recognize.

Thanks for the imput, this truck is a real work horse , I traded some Motorcycle parts for it , mostly for use in the woods for fire wood, after a while I found myself more interested in restoring it, it is already in sound condition and I am in the market for help in locating , mouldings, rear bumper and possibly door window transmissions. I am new to this site and appreciate any assitance
Nice looking trucks, Butch

Mike Reeh has either a 1-ton or 3/4 ton SWB 4by doesn't he? Not sure if it is factory or created by himself.

Mike's truck was a home built version, as most are.

3/4 ton SWB

I bought a 79 3/4 ton 8 Lug Blazer.....Factory and a bud bought 2 80 - 84 SWB 3/4 ton trucks...All 4 Wheel Drive All 3 were factory....and were originally purchased by a Large electric company.. I reckon when you have the $ and are buying in volume...you get what you want.. so they DO exist...but are uncommon. It's sorta like the 400 CU SBC was discontinued in the US a few years before it was in Canada.... but with a lil sweet talking, and some $$ you could get a Canada vehical.... ( Just had to change the Spedo cluster to MPH)

What does the VIN on the dash say? Does it match the build sequence number of the frame? I have never seen nor heard of an absolutely garanteed 3/4T SWB. All have been converted.
