Need opinions on crate ZZ-3 (price)

I can get a ZZ-3 from a friend in the Streetrod club, with only 600 miles on it for $2,000. Does this sound like a fair price?? (there is nothing wrong with it)

OK, maybe I should tell you guys what I'm up to. The Model A is for sale, but not with the 6:71 blown 350. I have decided to put that in the stepside. (Yes, it's true), but I have to have a healthy engine to put back in the Model A as a good selling point.

Hey Randy, I have a ZZ-4 myself. I would give $2000.00 for it right now if you don't want it.

I bought three new crate ZZ4s and all three have had major problem. All were either defective parts or defective machining. I must be in the minority though. It sure looked good on paper before I bought them. I member thinking "i'll never have to mess with the engine"....lol Good old GM.

doesn't that engine have a waranty? If its transferable go for it. You'll spend that much building a motor, plus having a crate motor w/ waranty would make a good selling point. I hear many street roders are starting to go that route.

Yeah, I've built a couple of engines, and it's definately cheaper to just buy one.

It's intake to oil pan. All I'd need is a carb and distributor, which I already have.

I think I will. If it was being sold by some guy off the street, I'd be suspicious. This guy I've known for a while, he's honest and I trust that he'd never stick anyone with a bad deal, especially one of your own club members from the largest car club in the Tidewater area. Every club member knows each other, we build cars together, help when help is needed, and party together as well. Money isn't an issue, I won't miss it (much too much anyhow) but I will save $1000!!! hehe

There was a catch, but I already knew about it. The engine made a tapping sound, so he took it out and replaced it with a ZZ4 before asking around about the noise. Well, I knew as well as everyone else that those engines have roller cams in them. They all tap for a minute until the lifters pump up. The problem is that he has money, but doesn't know much about engines. He never told anyone that it was for sale because he was reluctant about the noise thinking that the engine was bad, and trust me....he'd never sell a bad engine to anyone, friend or not. I found out that he still had it from a very good friend "Joe". He's the guy that owns the yellow 39 Ford coupe that I posted last week. These guys all have money so business isn't much of an issue.

Besides, the deal just got even sweeter....I just finished talking to Barry on the phone and the engine has a polished, jet hot coated intake and an HEI distributor. The "only" thing that it doesn't come with is the carb!!

Icaught thread on another board about the tapping in the ZZ3. what I got, it had to do with piston pin offset. If I remember, the eary ZZ crates ran a forged piston,& they made noise when cold(not an issue in my book),any perf eng i have run made a little noise! Did I hear something about sell the model A? ill kick your but for you so you dont have to kick it yourself later! I would have to agree that the A probably doesnt need a blower.....but its a keeper crazyL

Wanna buy it?
I just heard about the piston pin thing from someone else as well. I never worry much about any noise unless it's a knocking noise.
