Anyone with Louvered Hoods? Couple of questions

How do you keep the water off the engine?

Would you do it again?

Re: Anyone with Louvered Hoods? Couple of questions

There was a gal on the board, Julie, that had a louvered hood truck...she could not wait to get rid of it. Always a mess on her engine. Hers was a daily or weekly driver however, not a show truck.

Re: Anyone with Louvered Hoods? Couple of questions

I have mine louvered and I placed a metal peice under the hood to direct the rain either behind the motor or in front of it. Not bad at all.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Seems like I read about some guys using magnetic sheets (like used for door signage) to cover the holes during the rain.

No idea if it works or not.

I had a hood with 117 in it, Was on a 72 monte carlo. I was pretty young and it was my daily driver and no garage. Wont do that again. Had to cover the motor with plastic every time it rained. It was ok when driving, just a problem when parked. But if it was a fair weather cruiser and I had a garage for it, That would be cool to do again. Loved the look.

Yes you are right. And at a board meet one time we filled the holes from the inside with permatex.

Kept the water out. You couldn't see if from the outside.

And hers wasn't a show truck. She was happy with it.

Re: Anyone with Louvered Hoods? Couple of questions

I took a look at a 69 I think with the entire hood covered with louvers. It looked great. The truck was a rust bucket parked for sale on the side of a road in North Texas. I opened the hood and was immediately struck by two things: the brilliant shafts of light streaming down onto the engine bay ( it was the right time of day for the sun to really light it up through the open hood ) and the unbelievable amount of rust in all the wrong places under there.

While it can be nice to look at, a cut up hood like that can't be very useful for much other than on show builds.
