Purrs...heater core
From old board;
Quote:
If you don't have factory A/C, you just pull the outer box and the heater core will be right there. Make sure it is coolant on your carpet, and not rain water, my coolant leaks to the outside, and rain water leaks to the inside. If you have an A/C truck, I am of no help to you. |

Longhorn, Thanks. I should've known to put that it is A/C. and yes, it's that sweet smelling coolant. It is my heater core right?

Could be a hose or a loose clamp, but my money is on the core.

You need to start from heater vents ( the end right over the transmission hump) and work your way toward the box bolted against the firewall. Located on the back of your diverter box is a compressor swithc, unplug that, then, once all those vents are removed, unplug the heater resistor (inside the box) and relay bolted to the passenger exterior of the box. Once that is done, pull the hoses from the heater core ends under the hood. then there are four studs sticking through the firewall into the engine compartment. Spin off those 4 nuts and it the box should come out. Then just take out 4 small screws holding the heater core in that box. I just put a new one in my truck and I can tell you the replacements are not dimentioned right. I had a friend get me one and the tanks were too big. So the steel strap that went around them that held the core in the box was stretched out and wouldn't let the holes line up. He got me another one, had the same problem, but I was able to get it bolted up.
Also i learned that when you buy a replacement heater core you have several options of varying price. Well, he got me 2 different ones. One was a cheaper brand, 35 bucks the other was the top of the line 85 bucks. Well, after I had trouble with the first one we put them side by side and the cheap core and the expensive core were exactly the same. They even had the same stickers in the same location. So beware.
