finally picked up a truck

Well i broke the bank today. As some of you know i have been looking around for a 67-72 chevy to purchase just to have something to mess around with. After countless hours of looking at Craigslist, the for sale forum here and buggin the mess out of people. I found what i thought to be a solid purcahse. I have been eyeing this one listing on Craigslist in my hometown of Columbus. It is about an hour south of where i live now. So i was down there today to pickup my son for the 4th and called the guy. His asking price was a bit high but most online ads are. So i called him and we met up at his house. I inspected the truck, listened to it run. It has a 6+/- year old paint job. Did a good job masking the rust in the pictures but for the most part its not bad. Just what i have really been lookin for. Original inline 6, dash was intact, glass moves (no cracks) seats are workable... anywho ya get the idea. So here are the photos (i hope i can figure this out). Funny thing, i dont know how to drive a 3speed, how could it be any different than a 5speed. Should have seen me go. HAAA, well two blocks from the mans house and the darn thing cuts off. Its out of gas, added gas. It will not stay running now. Thinking i will rebuild the carb. this weekend. fuel pump is pumping and i have changed the filter. Looking forward to having some fun with this truck.
1970 stepside, short w/b, i think thats the big back window, 250 I6. Speed still on the column.
Let me know whatca think thanks. Just found the board a few weeks ago. I have been reading post like crazy.

Re: finally picked up a truck

I think you could have done a lot worse! Looks like a solid truck to start with. That is a big back window, the small window was only available in 1967.

Thanks!! I'm so friggin excited i dont know where to start. The truck runs but the tank was loaded with rust so right now its out being cleaned.
My plans are to keep it stock with factory styled upgrade. Power steering, disc brakes, maybe a/c. I've read some many threads on the upgrade i keep getting confused. LOL
I've seen you on most of those threads. So can i go to the junk yard and pull a power sterring gear, pump, resv. and brackets and bolt it right up? And the disc upgrade can i keep the stock 6 lug and use an 75-80s rotor, knuckle?

Re: finally picked up a truck

To answer a couple of your questions....

You can go to the JY (junkyard) and pick up some pieces for teh power steering, but you have to be careful about acquiring the correct version. They offered an integrated head, and nonintegrated version. (I'm searching for some threads, but if you search for integrated it should return the info I'm looking for)

As far as keeping the 6lug setup and converting to disc, several board vendors as well as other vendors offer some great disc brake upgrade kits. (ECE (Early Classic Enterprises) offers a great kit... the prices are a little higher, but their customer service and parts are barnun.)

From the sound of it, you are going along the same lines that I am, so I would refrain from upgrading to a '73-87 spindle; but that's my opinion.

I will do a search again, i remember seeing some talk abt the nonintr. vs the intergrated. They said make sure and get the pitman, rag joint from the donor. I need to look and see what the difference in the two units are.

Cool, do you have a build thread going or pics?

Re: finally picked up a truck

I see that you got you a truck. It looks good!! I'd drive the heck out of it and get a plan together. Then start collecting the parts up and work on it in winter, as long as you have a garage to do the work in. Again Congrats and welcome to the family.

Cool, my son wants to come along to it, i will not be driving the truck untill i get some good tires and the power sterring back together. But i will still come, i would like to see all the trucks there. And it will give me and my son something to do.
thanks for the welcome!
