Did i get the right stock style radio?

Hey guys im not really that good with the search function, and i also tried google images, and looked in the truck catalogs i have, but all i find are the newer style retro radios that fit in the stock dash cut out, i picked this radio up for $20 thinking it was the right one but the knobs are throwing me off cause they dont look like the ones on the dash i had,is this the right stereo for my 66 or for any 60-66 truck? Its pitch black outside to see if it fits the stock hole in the dash.........

Yes, it looks like you got the right radio.

You're right about the knobs though ... they should match the others on the dash. The ones on there now look like the ones used in 64 cars (BelAir, Impala, etc). I think those cars have the same size radio openings as these trucks so they likely used some of the same radios.

Re: Did i get the right stock style radio?

That looks like a '64 or '65 radio. The '66 radios had station select buttons if I remember correctly. A lot of times, you can find a date of manufacture ink stamp on the outside of the chassis. If not, there are some websites that can decode the GM part number sticker on the outer case. The knobs are easy to swap out, so I would worry about that.

If it works, you got a great deal on that radio for $20. I have heard that you should always have a speaker hooked up to it if you put power on it to check it out. I read somewhere that you'll burn out the transistor if it doesn't sense the ohm drop of the speaker. Not sure how true that is, but better safe than sorry.......

Re: Did i get the right stock style radio?

Thanks for thr reply's guys, Even tho its not the one for a 66 Im just happy i got a truck radio to put in the hole in the dash! Thats a good tip on having a speaker hooked up,cause to tell you the truth i most likely would have made a wire lead and tried powering it right off the battery to see if it turned on,but now i think ill install it the right way even tho it will be mainly for looks since im running a cd player/stereo...
