Tire size question

I have an 84 GMC Sierra 2500, and the door placard says the stock size tire is a 235/85R16. When I go on some tire shop sites, the only size that pops up is a 215/75R16. Were these an optional tire for the base 3/4 ton pickups? Mine is heavy duty. Would I be able to run the little smaller height tires on mine without any issues, since its a daily driver, not hauling anything? My wheels are stock 16" steel
Thanks

Re: Tire size question

You need an "LT" tire, probably E range.

The 215 is probably a passenger car tire. I don't think they even make that size in LT ???

Standard sizes for a pickup like that would be the LT235/85R16 and LT245/75R16.

Both of my older pickups have the latter.

Re: Tire size question

Tirerack.com says it came from the factory with either 215/85/16 or 235/85/16 both LT load range D. Check the diameter of each because you probably will have to change your speedo/odometer gear.

Re: Tire size question

Most of the tire store systems are a bit off. I believe if you take the bias ply of the day and convert it to metric it will come up to that size. As mentioned most folks use the 235/75, 235/85, 245/75 as the tire for the 3/4 toner trucks

Re: Tire size question

You will have to call in person because their computers are not accurate. I doubt they will ever discontinue the 235/85R16 load range E tires. That's what a 2500 should have anyway.

Re: Tire size question

The standard tire size for a C20/2500 was LT215/85R16C 6ply rating or LT235/85R16D (front) LT235/85R16E (rear)

Re: Tire size question

Thanks everyone. I'll just stay with the 235/85R16 size.
